FISH FOR CURE Lucknow Times (The Times of India) 12-Jul-2008
Arthritis is one of the most debilitating diseases of our time; it has affected millions of people in India irrespective of age and gender. An edible shellfish, commonly know as Green Lipped Mussel (GLM) found in the waters of New Zealand has become a reason of cheer for arthritic patients. This edible shellfish is major diet of New Zealand population and in the year 1947, an American research programme studied the marine mollusc and discovered its natural recovery potentials for the treatment of arthritis since then, Healtheries – a New Zealand based multi-national natural healthcare company – has introduced the extract of GLM in the capsule form under the brand name of Seatone. Today, Seatone is sold in over 30 countries and has benefited millions of users worldwide. According to Dr. John croft a marine scientist associated with the research on GLM “Seatone GLME contains a rich blend of natural anti – inflammatory agents, immune modulator and many essential building blocks that help to maintain joint mobility good health and well-being. The various clinical studies have indicated the success rate of 75 percent on Arthritis patients, with out causing any classical adverse side effects of drug therapy.”
In India, the cost for this therapy of 1000mg per day come to Rs 50 per day for the first three months, which can be later reduced to 500 mg a day, i.e. Rs 25 per day. Even more encouraging is that a pilot study conducted in the U.S. on Gonarthrosis (arthritis of knee ) showed actual reversal of progressive joint space narrowing in grade III osteoarthritis through long-term usage of GLME. This gives hope to arthritic people that through use of GLME they could potentially save themselves from the eventual very-costly knee replacement surgery.
