Pilot Study in USA shows Osteo-arthritis is reversible Hyderabad Times (The Times of India) 4-Aug-2008
Arthritis, one of the most debilitating diseases of our time, has affected millions of people worldwide irrespective of age and gender. Nature being the most powerful healer has now given a new hope to these patients.
An edible shellfish, commonly known as Green Lipped Mussel (GLM), found in New Zealand has been shown in clinical trials to be effective in relieving the symptoms of arthritic related conditions. This edible shellfish is a major diet of New Zealand population and in the year 1947, an American research program studied the marine mollusk and discovered its natural recovery potentials..
According to pilot study conducted in the US on Gonarthrosis ( arthritis of the knee), a number of patients were significantly able to reduce their NSAID intake and pain medication dosage and maintain a more active lifestyle using a maintenance program of 1000mg of GLM extract per day.
The study was conducted by Roger V Kendall, PhD, John W. Lawson, PhD, & Lloyd A. Hurley, MD, and published in the Townsend Letter for Doctors and Patients, 2000. The GLM extract has been shown to be especially effective in this clinical evaluation for Grade I and II Osteoarthritis. The study suggests that osteoarthritis can be reversible. The very apparent and continued response of Grade I and II arthritis to the use of GLM extract shows that cartilage has the innate ability to regenerate itself. Arthroscopic & radiographic evidence on 10 patients strongly suggests that GLM extract contributed to new growth of cartilage.
Healtheries - a New Zealand based multi-national natural health care company – has introduced the extract of GLM in the capsule form under the brand name Seatone. Today, Seatone is sold in over 30 countries and has benefited user’s world wide.
According to Dr John Croft, a marine scientist associated with the research on GLM, “Seatone GLME contains a rich blend of natural anti- inflammatory agents, immune modulators and many essential building blocks that help to maintain joint-mobility, good health & well-being. The various clinical studies have indicated the success rate of 75% on Arthritis patients without causing any adverse side effects of drug therapy” In India, the cost for this therapy of 1000mg/day is Ts 50 per day for first three months. It can be later reduced to 500mg/day. That is Rs 25 per day.
